The first estate was made up of the religious leaders who were in charge of the Church. While these bishops made up only 1% of the total population, they controlled almost 10% of the land in France. This land brought them a great deal of wealth from the products produced on it.The major bishops where very wealthy and powerful. The bishops where after the king the most powerfull and important people of france. Most bishops didn't care about the third estate and where happy with life the way it was. They had money, food, land and power.(Larissa)

Advantages the clergy got in money
The clergy were the first estate. Because of that they had many privilages. For instance they would get far more money doing something simple than a urban worker would farming for several hours straight . Now the clergy (also can be referred to as bishop) that were earning the most which were the archbishop would get around 500,000 livres a year. (Livres is money) While a skilled craftsman would get 200 livres a year.

Second Estate:

Nobles
:

Who were they:
The nobles were the second estate. They were people like the musketeers, Lords and ladies e.t.c. They were rich people who fought for the king; they also controlled all the top jobs. They lived in houses almost fit for a king and their incomes could feed almost 5 or more families and the highest income of the nobles were about 20,000 livres per year. They lived in luxury and they never cared about the labourers they employed. It is even said that if a day labourer employed by them dies under load, the lords (nobles) are less upset than by the death of one of the horses in their stable. That was how wicked the nobles could be. They only cared about their money. But there were some nobles that were poor. No less than 60% of the nobility lived in that condition and those poor nobles familiy had income like 500 livres per year.

A nobleman's house before the revolution

(James A.)

How did they live:

Before the revolution men had lots of rights on their land and properties. Their houses are massive and beautiful. They had nice green land in their garden. But, the Noblewomen couldn’t rule their properties. The noble’s houses were away from the peasants. It depends about your birth if you are a noble or not. They could drink and eat what and how much they want. They had a good relationship with the king.
